week 20, day 6
I know so many people who are pregnant right now! It's ridiculous!
My cousins wife is at 13 ish weeks *waves* (but HA! I still get to make Gran a great grandmother first!)
wonderful Gonzo's misses is at 17 ish weeks *waves more*
and like 4 more sets of couples that me and Coyote know! what happened this spring and summer? was there nothing good on TV for a couple of months? were there lots of power cuts? It's ridiculous! I'm going to lack specialness!
Baby is getting bigger and bigger, I can tell because the muscles around my stomach ache in weird ways, and I'm starting to feel baby kick higher and higher up, so far the little wriggle bottom has kicked as far up as my tummy button. and I'm starting to worry about where all my other organs are going to go! Baby is also kicking hard enough that Coyote can actually feel the kicks, he described it as "like someone flicking a bowl of custard" (I tried to be not offended by that one). My stomach is still also getting bigger, but I still just look like I've put on a lot of weight rather than being pregnant. Which is a problem for things like public transport, because being on my feet for long periods of time makes me tired very quickly, and occasionally dizzy, so on a crowded train I really do need to sit down, but I don't look like I'm a pregnant lady with a genuine need to sit, rather than a fat lady being lazy. It's also getting harder for me to do things like bend down or get out of bed (my bed is a futon, so it's on the floor, which makes it hard to get to standing up) and I'm starting to walk with a bit of a waddle. I keep waiting to get 'the pregnant woman glow' but so far my skin is still very much behaving like I'm a teenager, which probably isn't helped by the fact that the one craving I consistently get is for chocolate (this is very unusual for me, normally, I have no taste for sweet things, I once gave up and threw out a Easter egg after I'd had it uneaten for 2 years). I'm also still occasionally getting morning sick, partly it just feels like I'm more sensitive to things that normally make me a bit queasy, like getting up early in the morning, or watching films in the dark if there are lots of jerky camera moves...I'm glad I don't have to do any sea travel, I normally get sea sickness anyway, right now I think I'd be horribly miserable.
I am worrying about putting on too much weight in pregnancy, I know that the bigger you are and the higher your BMI is, the bigger the risk of pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes and your baby being born too big. My BMI is 31 which is only just in the 'obese' category...but it's still worrying. especially as they explain that you can have all these problems from being over-weight in pregnancy while at the same time telling you that you shouldn't try to loose weight. So I'm just trying to eat my 5 a day of fruit and veg, while avoiding everything I need to avoid and trying not to eat too much fat or sugar too...it's all very worrying. Though so far my blood pressure has remained nicely normal, and I've had no sugar or protein in my urine.
Baby can now hear me when I talk, and apparently responds most to my voice, which is lovely. But I keep reading the recommendation that because of this I should talk to and read to my baby...what I question is this. I really don't think baby can understand the difference between me talking to it and reading to it, and me just having a normal conversation. The advice to converse with your baby isn't really for your baby, it's for you, because starting the bonding process with your baby now means that you are less likely get pre-natal and post-natal depression. But they never say that, and I prefer honesty...maybe they think it's like the placebo effect, if you know it's happening, it doesn't.
And also...why do they recommend dried fruit as a good source of iron? grapes and apples don't contain iron, so why do raisins and dried apple rings contain more iron?
