week 20, day 2
Sorry it took me a little while to do this post, my internet has been being special to say the least (seriously, after an hour on the phone trying to fix the internet, the internet should be working better, not worse! grrrr!!!!)
Anyway....
Yay! 20 weeks! half way through pregnancy! It's all gone by so fast, and at the same time so slowly. It only feels like yesterday that I found out I was pregnant, and now I'm halfway through! but at the same time, it has felt a bit like being on a nerve wracking roller-coaster, with really scary bits and then high elation's.
The Scan went really well, baby is all healthy and well, everything is blessedly normal. and baby is (dun dun duuunnnnn!) A girl! I was completely wrong about baby being a boy!...at least, from what the sonographer could see on the scan baby is a girl. It isn't actually 100% accurate, in 5 months time we might get a surprise.
They really do look at every part of baby in the scan, they look at babies brain (there was a worrying 5 minutes when it looked like she was worried about something in babies brain, but maybe they just need to look very closely for something difficult to see) and they look at baby mouth (looking for a cleft palate) and they look very closely at babies heart as the different bits in the heart move as it beats, and they looked at her kidneys, eyes and legs (they measure how long the legs are to see if baby has dwarfism) and the spine from both sides (for spine abifida)...its so thorough! It was incredible to see baby! I can't believe baby has gone from a 2 mm dot with a little fluttering heartbeat at 5 weeks, to a person with all their bones and organs and she's getting so BIG! She's now the size of a banana from toe to head! She had a hand up by her face (Coyote said she was picking her nose, I think she was waving) and she really wasn't willing to stay still! The sonographer had a terrible time trying to measure her legs because she wouldn't stop kicking! The entire scan she was wriggling and moving and kicking! Arching her back and kicking her legs. It was lovely. I had tears in my eyes watching it. We asked if we could find out the gender, and she had a quick look between the legs, and couldn't see anything sticking out, so it looks like baby is a girl!
We have actually decided what we're going to call her...but I think I'm going to keep that secret for a bit longer.
Babies kicking me more and more regularly, especially when I'm relaxed and lying on my back, but I can feel it at other times too. Coyote keeps on laughing at me because I keep saying hello to baby every time I feel a strong kick. Coyote still isn't quite able to feel baby kicking from the outside, but part of that is that I can't predict when baby will give a good strong kick, so he keeps missing them.
I'm now giving myself permission to start buying things for baby, because I figure if we start buying clothes and blankets and nappies and things now, we won't have a rush closer the time and we can spread out the cost. I'm pretty much asking for baby clothes for Christmas and seeing if I can persuade my dad to get me a pram (fingers crossed).
