I want to be a good mum

week 26, day 6

I really want to be a good mum. I want to...
  • Have clear set boundaries and good discipline, but at the same time be fun and spontaneous.
  • Feed baby good healthy food, but maybe not be quite as anti-sugar as my mum was (sorry mum).
  • Be really loving and affectionate.
  • Read stories to baby every night.
  • Remember to give baby 10 compliments for every 1 criticism.
  • Do sign language with baby from as soon as baby is born.
  • Do lots of creative things with baby
  • Take baby swimming as soon as she is old enough to go.
  • Take baby to lots of museums and art galleries
  • Make a start on teaching baby to read and write before she gets to school.
  • Make sure we have a good routine in place, especially around bed time so baby gets enough sleep.
  • Take baby to Quaker meetings, and teach baby about paganism (me and Coyote's religious beliefs) but at the same time let baby make up her own mind about religion.
  • Teach baby about gender equality, that just because she's a girl doesn't mean that she has to wear pink or act in a certain way (I may have to ban barbie dolls)
  • Teach baby about all equality, that we're all special individuals in our own right and no matter what our sexuality or religion or color we're all equal.
  • Teach baby that education is really important but that there are lots of different ways to be clever.
  • Teach baby that being kind and thoughtful are the most important qualities a person can have.
  • Teach baby that there is nothing wrong with being a little weird and different (though with mummies tattoo's and daddies long hair...she may pick that up on her own)
Though...the biggest things for me, and gods I really hope I manage this one...
  • I want to not get post-natal depression. I want to not let my mental health problems effect baby...I want to be a good mummy.
