Still nearly 8 months
I am so very very glad we are doing baby led weaning. Tabitha has eaten salmon, tuna sandwiches, chili taco's, stew, mushroom bhaji's, mango, melon, pear, carrot, red cabbage, ravioli...she just tries whatever is put in front of her! if its a very new food she will carefully watch me and Coyote eat a mouthful and then she'll try it herself. certain things she really really likes (potatoes and toast with jam on for example) and she'll eat quite a lot of, other things she'll only nibble at and eat a couple of bites, but there really hasn't been anything she has completely turned her nose up at. she's just happy exploring her food and trying new things. and its so little hassle! and she's only choked once really near the beginning (she tried to swallow too much bread at once, she just threw up and then was fine) everything else she has managed fine. I would really really recommend anyone with a baby to try it. I can't even imagine doing things any other way, or that Tabitha would be happy with just eating mush off a spoon.
Gender is a weird thing with babies. I hate pink. I'm just not a girly girl. I won't wear pink, and I tend to dress Tabitha in clothes I think are nice, so I very very rarely dress her in it. She probably wears blue more...and this confuses some people. But what I find really interesting is what signs people use to try to figure out Tabitha's gender. for example i had her in blue jeans with sparkly buttons on, and a red top with frills and a puppy on...people just looking at the blue jeans and red top presumed she was a boy, but as soon as they saw the puppy and buttons they then apologized and realized that she's a girl...or the fact that it doesn't seem to matter how 'masculine' the clothes are that we dress her in, if she is wearing a hair clip, shes presumed to be a girl. it just seems strange to me what signs people use to determine masculinity and femininity. and that even at this age some toys are determined to be 'boys' toys or 'girls' toys.
Tabitha still has no teeth. she keeps acting as though she is teething, but the teeth just haven't erupted through her gum yet. she also doesn't really roll over yet, she can do it, but she doesn't like doing it, and has no interest in being on her tummy or crawling. on the other hand, she loves standing up and will try to walk with encouragement. so we think she is just going to skip crawling and just go straight for walking. Me and Coyote have a bet, he thinks that she will have taken some tentative steps by the end of December, i think it'll be by February.
I don't really enjoy Christmas very much. It has some bad childhood memories, and its expensive and stressful. i always forget to send Christmas cards, and its really hard picking out good gifts for people...until now it has always been more hassle than its worth. But this Christmas i'm looking forward to. Tabitha's first ever Christmas. Hopefully the start of something magical. The start of building some really wonderful memories for her.
