week 3 day 4
My goodness this baby thing is hard work!
Don't get me wrong, I am still loving being a mum, and my depression still hasn't kicked back in (fingers crossed that it doesn't at all). But it is very hard work.
Baby has developed the habit (and I am sure she does this on purpose) of waiting until she is in the middle of being changed, or getting ready for a bath, or being weighed by the midwife to pee and poo and occasionally throw up every where, it is like a mini explosion on the changing mat! (Coyote is very freaked out whenever this happens to him, though she seems to time it mainly to happen to me!)
Baby also occasionally has days when no matter how much I feed her (her record is nearly constant feeding for 8 hours) she is still demanding food. Occasionally she eats so much that it gives her hiccups, which then makes her throw up, and the only way to sooth her hiccups is to feed her more...which kind of turns into a vicious cycle.
Baby likes to sleep all day and then stay awake all night.
Baby seems to know just when I have closed my eyes to go to sleep to wake up crying.
She has developed a rash on her face which seems to show she is allergic to something she is touching, but I just can't figure out what it is, and this is worrying me.
Trying to deal with constant lack of sleep is really quite hard, it's very draining, and makes your mood more frazzled and irritable (especially when Coyote snores as well!). Most of the time she does sleep for 3 hour stretches through the night between feeds and changes. but some nights she sleeps far less, especially when she's being constantly hungry and the feeds are lasting for 40-50 minutes, and then she's awake and wanting food less than half an hour later (it's no real surprise that she's putting on weight really well).
Breast feeding makes you really hungry! and tired!
Trying to leave the house for any reason requires about 2 hours preparation time to make sure that when we leave the house me and Tabitha are clean and dressed and that she's recently fed so I don't need to worry too much about feeds while we're out.
We got a new pram from my dad (thank you dad) and you can break it down into two parts, the only problem is that the parts even individually are slightly too heavy for me to carry down and up-stairs with a still healing cesarean scar (I discovered this the hard way when after carrying baby in the basket bit upstairs I found that the wound had started bleeding again). Which makes it difficult to take baby out with me, especially as we unfortunately discovered that the carrier that we had bought is absolutely useless.
You need to constantly keep a check on the time for various different things, baby needs her nappy changing at least once every 2 hours (unless she's sleeping), it's useful to keep an eye on when I have fed her, sterilizing things takes 15 minutes, and the sterilizing water can only be kept for 24 hours, things in the sterilizing water need to be left for at least 15 minutes before you can use them, expressed breast milk can only be kept 24 hours, formula milk can only be kept 2 hours, and the water you use to make the formula needs to have been boiled over 30 minutes ago before you can use it...in general, it can start to feel a lot to keep track of...
it's all really hard work!
Though even with all of this...I think I love her more every day.
You can store expressed milk for longer than 24 hours. http://www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/pdfs/BFNExpressing&Storing.pdf
